Amit Shah defended the action of canceling 4% reservation for Muslims
Appreciating the state government's decision to scrap the 4 per cent reservation for Muslims under the 2B Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said religious reservations are constitutionally invalid.
Addressing public meetings at Gorata village in Bidar district and Gabbur in Raichur district, he criticized the Congress for implementing 4 per cent reservation for Muslims for its vote bank politics.
He said that the BJP government led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has also tried to remove the injustice done to Scheduled Castes by implementing new internal reservation.
He said that reservation for minorities is not constitutionally valid, there is no provision in the constitution to give reservation on the basis of religion, this Congress government has done it for its appeasement politics and given reservation to minorities.
The BJP government scrapped the entire 2B category as constitutionally untenable as it was for Muslims only and allocated four per cent quota equally to the two dominant communities in the state. BJP never believes in appeasement. Hence, Shah defended the decision saying that it had decided to change the reservation.
